Threads is the first app you get to keep your Instagram followers on. That’s pretty cool. So how do you get people on Instagram to follow your brand? What if no one even knows about your brand? How much time are you spending wondering how to grow an Instagram account from 0 followers?
Let’s chat about how to grow an Instagram account from 0 followers.
One great reason to grow Instagram accounts, is the actual connection you make with human beings. It is possible to live a fleeting life on Instagram. To expect connection where it’s not and to scroll paste meaning pretty quick. But it’s also to create deeper connections. If you choose, you can pull Instagram away from Instagram, and into real life.
As a creator, or as a business.
Like the swipe-up ad.
Later, once you’ve proven your store, you’ll have some options on Facebook for retargeting if you have at least 1000 followers on Instagram.
Today’s miniature lesson teaches us ways to grow on Instagram.
So that’s our first social mission— to get from 0 to 1000.

Later, once you have lots of original content in the world you’re going to find it pretty easy to promote with Instagram posts. It will be a matter of finding the time, not of choosing what to say. The better content you take the time to write, the easier it is to promote.
You’ll need some followers, but there’s plenty of people that will preach, as Kevin Kelly did in 2008, that you don’t need more than 1000 true fans.
Let’s get to the potatoes of this blog post.
Grow your instagram organically with these tips on how to grow more followers on instagram.
This is a distinction worth a great deal. Stories show Instagram that someone is participating in Instagram, and that is what the great IG wants. When you post a story, the option to watch the story shows up on your follower’s own Instagram. A person has to choose to watch your story. And when you reply to the story … The person receives a notification heart, and then they get a message. If your comment was worth a damn, and they say something back, then you get to say another thing to them.
Omg … Is this a conversation? With a stranger? On the Instagram?!
No one who watches your stories is “totally unaware” of you. They are following you, and they’re looking at your story. They might go look at your post. And if they reply, they’re in your DMs. A good place to build a little rapport. Do we like this human? Entertain, compliment, entertain, let them in, share cool things.
Think outside the niche and imagine the aesthetic for a visual platform like Instagram.
If you’re a techy brand, you might not do a lot of outside visuals, but hiking is something that many people enjoy. If bridges or forests fit into your brand aesthetics, you might be on to something with pretty visuals you regularly find on hikes.
Once you’ve curated your followers to people who are in your niche, it’s time to interact with your stories. One sneaky tip is to set your stories up to play when you charge your phone. Not at night, during the day, at night you’ll get people pretty far out of your zone.
Go to a large account with lots of engagement and engage with the people commenting.
People that have around 300 – 1200 followers.
These are regular people with regular lives. They will buy your product if it’s in your niche and you can help them feel special. We all just want to feel special and accomplished and be part of a group.
Act as if you already have become the person you’re becoming. Instagram is an easy place to act out.
In my real life, on my real Instagram… That is — I get a little mean sometimes in the comments. That’s okay. In real life, I am sometimes mean. Not really mean, but mean-ish. Sometimes, when someone puffs their chest out, I’ll come around like the Devil’s advocate.
But when I’m all up in my business, then I get to put on that branded persona. I don’t have to carry around all the trauma drama from every wrong anyone’s ever done to me. I can leave that baggage at the LAST Instagram account. I’ve switched accounts now, baby!
And on my business account? My voice is a little fun, sometimes funny, and mostly supportive. My comments that I leave on stranger accounts have a strong can-do attitude.
I want my Instagram followers to fit into niche, when I’m in my nichey site.
When I find a creator with tons of followers, I’m looking for the commenters, not the creator.
I find a commenter with a name and a face and an active story, and then I go like 3 photos of theirs that fit my niche.
Why 3 likes?
Because more than 3 likes will make your person be like “woah.” Okay, they came in, they dug deep, they’re outta there. I want to like three of their posts and then hopefully get them to follow me. Then I hit their notification and start liking their new stuff. Replying to stories when it feels right.
When I do a new wave of affiliates, I ask the people in my messages already. That gets me a message read. Sending messages to randos is not how you get people on your team.
300-1200 followers is where you want to be. Those are just regular people like you and me.
You’ll want to look regularly for your niche on Instagram during normal business hours. If you look outside of normal hours, you’ll find the freaks.
The freaks come out at night.
If you LIKE Freaks, then there are some really fun ones to follow on Instagram. Two of my faves are Experrinment and Witch Betty. Check them out.
Stay tenacious in your search for your people. Do it at lunch or when you’re sorta watching Netflix shows. Stay consistent, and keep on complimenting strangers on the internet. Specifically, ones that are in your niche. Social Media without marketing is just social, but if you’re actively participating in social networks with a work focus, you’re on your way to a sustainable business.
You can grow to 1000 Instagram followers from 0.
And beyond!!!
Here’s a blog I wrote about how to create a clickable link in instagram stories if you’re ready for something deeper.
