Not sure what you’re up to, but I’m over here working on my side hustle while working full-time.
I’m not working at this exact moment, it is my Saturday. I enjoy some leisure time and I do some cleaning on my Saturdays, and now I’m getting back into the habit of writing, my chosen side hustle.
Working in spurts is the best way for me to maintain a side hustle while working full-time. If my after-work work is too similar to my at-work duties, I will revolt. Do you find that is true, too?
I take the idea of an overarching theme for a season and when I have the energy, I move forward in that direction.
This year my side hustle is focused on blogging.
My full-time job is a full-time commitment, but my side hustle is something I love to do: writing.
My full-time job is very hands-on, so I’m not exhausted from writing when I am not at work. I do like to do less of what I do at work, which is very customer-facing, pretty bubbly, and involved in many conversations.
Writing is quiet, which I like.
Thanks to my noise-canceling headphones, that is.
I have previously set up the tools needed to do the job that is my side hustle.
My desk, computer, noise-canceling headphones, keyword research tool, and website are ready for. me.
That’s something I set up during the year before I was happily employed when I was full-time hustling.
My job is not the peak of my existence. I don’t have to try insanely hard every day.
Many people tell you to live below your means and many people tell you to find your passion and there’s the old adage that a man will work 8 hours for someone he hates, 10 for someone he likes, and 12 hours for himself.
But I don’t want to earn less than minimum wage. I’m tired of struggling at work. I’m here to be a full-time adult with a 401k and a Roth IRA, takes taken out, and an HR to call when my boss is mean to me.
My job is easy, stable, and social. I like it. I’m going to keep it.
I have enough energy to try something new.
And I’m going to write blogs.
So for me, my winter side hustle and my writing side hustle are pretty much the same.
