Snow in September reminds us of Christmas which is why I used to make money off a winter side hustle installing holiday lighting. Today my winter side hustle is writing. If you’re looking to start a writing side hustle, you’re in the right place.
Well, as the saying goes, “There’s always growth in spring”, but you’ll have more to reap if you start your seeds in winter.
Winter gives us more hours of dark than hours of light but we live in a time of electricity so lets go with more hours inside than outside.
Focusing on hustling in the winter will allow you to be outside more in the summer.
Some seasons you’re ready to fight and some seasons you’d be better off in a cocoon. If this is a season to wrap yourself up in a comfort blanket instead of hustling for your future, go for it.
Whether a winter side hustle or a writing side hustle is right for you is a personal prompt you could journal on today. Words come easily to me (unless I’m on a deadline of course) but not in every season.
Writing in the winter feels cozy to me. Fancy drinks, rain videos, and an emotional support candle get me in the mood.
If you bore easily of passive activities like TV and remain curious about language over the years, a writing side hustle might be right for you.
If a writing side hustle doesn’t tickle your fancy, you can try another type of winter side hustle.
Installing Christmas lights professionally can be lucrative enough to be your full-time gig if you set your intentions and actions to make it so.
There are niches within the Christmas Decorating industry. The biggest distinction is between interior and exterior holiday decorating. Both of which can be lucrative.
Hospitals have high numbers of patients that get hurt while decorating, so if you find yourself more nimble, athletic, or physically more capable than most of the adults around you, then this might be for you.
Hands-on work isn’t for everyone. But maybe it is for you.

I’ll leave you with a quote from my late mother–
“You can be anything you choose, but you’ll have better luck if you play to your strengths.”
You could breed lizards, grow hydroponic microgreens, do calligraphy, take stock photos, dog sit, shovel pathways, drive snowbirds car to Florida from Canada, cater parties, do Christmas gift baskets, write a novel, and start a flower garden.
